Exploring node-red as a commissioning tool

How about using Node-Red as a commissioning tool where you don't have SCADA or you don't want to use a "paid" platform to generate the screens? Maybe you don't have access or the ability to work on the customer's existing SCADA?

Using OPC and some dashboard nodes, the status of 6 systems are displayed, where you could watch key aspects and react if some unexpected behavior occurs.

Node-Red is running in Docker on a PC in this example. What if the PLCs (such as the Opto22 groov EPIC) also have Node-Red onboard: could one make a self-aware/dynamic dashboard, where multiple systems could be administered from one browser tab? I wonder how much effort it would take? Something to explore for another opportunity...
